Last weekend (Friday and Saturday) I went on a trip “through Denmark”. Actually we visited nothern Jylland, but we attendet alot of towns and cities. It all started friday morning at 7:00 in the morning, getting up, to meet Katharina in Agroskolen, together with Jago and Gintare. On the way we picked up Vera and drove to the car rental service. Almost all students were joining in the trip, so we needed alot of cars. 27 people in total. so we needed 6 cars. I drove with my car, Volker drove with his, Our buddy Esben was also driving his car, and Anne was driving too. so we needed to rent 2 more cars, which would be driven by Katharina and Vera. When we finally got the cars in the rental company, we drove back to Birk at 8:40. there the crowd was waiting already. We loaded the cars and started our trip. The sun was shining, there weren’t any clouds, it was looking very nice. So the first town we drove through was a small town on the way to Viborg, just for sightseeing. We arrived Viborg around 10. It is a nice city, with an old city center. Esbens parents live in this town, so Esben and denise went to visit his parents for breakfast, together with Jago and Dana. The rest of the group went to walk around Viborg. It was dead in this city, the only people you saw were people jogging around. We gathered together again at the cathedral, where a ceremony of Kommune children just finished. Though we weren’t supposed to go into the cathedral, we did have a quick jump inside, whereafter some guy nicely asked us to leave. We had seen the cathedral by then, so it was no problem at all. Then we drove to Skive. We visited the port, and had a nice walk in the forest. The next stop was not so far away from Skive. We visited a Castle called Spøttrup Mittelalterburg. This castle reflected the population of Denmark quite nicely. In other words, the castle was very small. But visiting it was for free (again) and I was suprised by that. The castle was mostly interesting from the outside, inside there was not so much to see. Most rooms were empty or nearly empty. But it was nice to attend it. Now that I looked for the website about this castle it turns out the enterance for students was 25kr, but apparently we just went in without paying. Nice!
Next we went to Nykøbing Mors. When we arrived in Nykøbing Mors we lost Vera for the second time (first time was only short, just before entering Viborg). It was around 14 and we went to look for some food. A Pizza/Kebab restaurant was nearby, so we decided to go there. The owners were turkish and Esen helped us with the orders of pizza
After dinner we gathered together at the port again, where Vera finally found us back. Then we plowed on through the danish empty roads. The sun was shining like never seen before in Denmark, everybody was happy.
Next stop was in Hanstholm. Where we lost Vera again… She stopped somewhere to take a picture, but she didnt have a navigation system, only a paper map which clearly wasnt enough to get her in the places she wanted :P. In Hanstholm we visite the beach. The beach was very deserted and full of garbage. You could see nobody came there. We ran through the weeds onto the beach and there was a very strong wind (as always in denmark at the sea). Half an hour later most of the group were in the bunkers across the street. Gintare didn’t feel well so we stayed near the car. Vera, by that time, called me to ask me where we were, but explaining how you got to the beach from an unknown place is quite impossible, so she didn’t find the beach. She was waiting at the Q8 station between Hanstholm and Aalborg, where I later found her back on our way to Aalborg. We arrived at Aalborg around 19:30 where we got the key for our Hostel. The hostel was 202 krones for the night including breakfast, which, for Denmark, is still ok
It was a funny hostel, when we arrived we saw these very small “cottages”. Apparently one of these was our home for the night. This tiny house of 2.5m to 5m was good for 7 beds. On top we (Me and Gintare) created a King Size bed. After dropping our stuff in our tiny houses we watched the sunset at the river/sea. Our chalets were next to a small port in Aalborg. After the sunset we went back to Aalborg City to have some party. After some wine and McDonalds we went to the party street. There we were again amazed by how it works in Denmark. At every pub there were guys standing who were handing out little cards, worth one free beer inside. So after 3 bars and several free beers, Me and Gintare stayed in this one bar. All the rest kept running around for free beer and party
In the end we were back home around 2 I guess, and everyone was reasonably drunk.
Day 2 started at 8:30. At 9 we went for breakfast, because at 9:30 breakfast buffet was closing. After eating and packing we drove off to Aalborg City to see this by day. I must say there were quite alot of people there when we arrived around 11. It looked like a real city that had inhabitants. We walked through the shopping street and visited a church there. At 13 we gathered back and drove to Skagen. We gathered first in the port of Skagen to wait for Esben and Anne who were comming a bit later. Once they arrived we jumped in the cars and drove to Skagen beach. Skagen is the top end of Denmark where the 2 seas come together. The second day was the same weather as the first one, sunshine all over the place but there was a strong and cold wind keeping everyone from running around in T-shirts. We were all winter clothed though, but it was nice to be there. The beach is more than 1km far at the top. And in this sea were seals swimming. Didn’t expect that! After our group photo, where we loaded a girl with a few thousand cameras, we headed back to the cars. In Skagen is also a “burried church“. All that is left of this church is the tower. The rest of this church is under the seasand and probably also largely destroyed. As a last thing we visited Skagen “City” aka “Downtown” to find something to eat. With 27 people counting group we just filled a whole snackbar/restaurant/tavern where we had a very nice dinner, and Ektor a Large Cola. Everyone decided to go back at 19 but I was not in a hurry to get back home. On my walk to the car I noticed what a artificial shopping street Skagen had. It didn’t look right, it was a wide street, very new and nicely designed. Cars could drive through it, even two lanes. In this street there were no old buildings at all. I see a shopping street as a closed by high buildings small street filled with people, the buildings are old, the street not accessible for cars and here and there some garbage. This street looked as the exact opposite
. When we left around 20 I saw that my fuel tank was nearly empty. We had done over 450km already, so my 35L tank was not going to make it till home. After 100km more I fuelled 12L because the gas was expensive (10.5kr/l) I guessed it would be enough for another 200km, but after 100km at 160km/h it was nearly empty again. So i had to fuel a second time (pitstop) and then we drove to our final destination, herning. At 22 we arived in the city we have become used to. After dropping off Petros we went to fuel the car. Thank god it was cheaper now! “only” 9.90kr/L. After dropping of Ektor I had to drop of Esen and Gintare as the last 2 passengers. around 23 I got home then, and i must say I was pretty exhausted but happy. My passengers had been sleeping in the car all the time, but I couldn’t. Not that I felt like sleeping back then, but when you arrive at home in the end, you do feel quite tired. I could go to bed tired and happy. A great weekend had been occured.
